With over a hundred years of history and innovation, all while maintaining its autonomy as an independent company, Oris is a force to be reckoned with in the world of watchmaking. Arguably, there is no better example of their heritage blended with modern aesthetics and materials than their ProPilot X line.

About Oris ProPilot X Watches

Let's be honest: many people searching for the perfect diver's watch don't intend to use it as a diving tool. Likewise, the majority of consumers searching for a pilot's watch don't intend to use it as a flight instrument-though, of course, models such as the Oris ProPilot X are more than capable.

But realistically, people searching for such watches are looking for a purpose-built and durable watch that can blend with different wardrobes and different styles of life-from lounging about on the couch and watching cartoons to dressing up for a night out. The Oris ProPilot X is the perfect accompaniment to a dynamic lifestyle for the enthusiast who desires to make

Oris ProPilot X History

Founded in 1904, the nascency of Oris parallels the fledgling aviation industry of the time period. By 1911, Oris developed their first pocket watch for pilots, and by 1917, they developed their first wrist-worn pilot's watch. Their Big Crown watches-so that the watch could be wound with gloves that pilots wore-often had pointer dates and are still offered today, with vintage styling for the contemporary consumer.

It wasn't until 2014, however, that Oris decided to create an amalgamation of vintage and modern, which ultimately gave birth to the Oris Big Crown ProPilot line of watches. Being well received, Oris continued to innovate and invest in its own identity with the release of the Big Crown ProPilot X, which first debuted in 2019.

How Much Do Oris ProPilot X Watches Cost?

ProPilot X watches belong in the upper price tier within the Oris catalog due to their top-notch materials and in-house calibers. In general, you can find the base models for around $4,000 to $5,000, with the more expensive models featuring the Calibre 115 costing around $8,000. Below you can find some options from the Oris ProPilot X collection:

What's Unique About Oris ProPilot X Watches?

From a design standpoint, the Oris ProPilot X is unlike anything in the industry. It is a harmonious blend of past and present, a watch that hints at Oris' rich heritage in the sphere of aviation watches but at the same time utilizes modern design, materials, and movement.

It has a big crown, but one that is modern and unlike the onion crowns traditionally used in pilot's watches. It also offers a unique clasp with Oris' "lift" technology, subdued but beautiful dial colors, and-of course-the use of titanium, which offers greater durability, thermal properties, and weight savings.

Oris ProPilot X Movements

For those who love mechanical watches, the Oris ProPilot X is just for you! At its core lie two distinct movement options: the Calibre 115 and the Calibre 400. The former, epitomizing craftsmanship, boasts a skeletonized dial, allowing a mesmerizing peek into the intricate mechanics of the 10-day power reserve movement, one of the best power reserves in the industry.

The Calibre 400, released shortly after the 115, would define the next generation of Oris' in-house movement technology. Oris defines the Calibre 400 as the "new standard." It boasts a 5-day power reserve, advanced materials that allow for 10-year service intervals (the best in the industry), a new, more stable rotor system, and elevated resistance to magnetic fields. All in all, the Calibre 115 and the Calibre 400 are examples of modern watchmaking innovations.

Oris ProPilot X Watch Colors

The CEO of Oris, Rolf Studer, described owning a watch as an expression of happiness. No other watch color in the Oris ProPilot X exemplifies this quite like the Kermit Edition. It has a "lime" green dial with Kermit the frog appearing on the first day of every month. While it might be loud for some collectors, the Oris Pro Pilot X Kermit Edition is actually a watch with a splash of color that can be worn with casual or formal attire.

There is also a gray printed dial, which blends nicely with the titanium case and bracelet, offering a monotone and subdued appearance on the wrist. The blue dial is closer to a navy blue than a royal blue, so it can be considered a dressier option. The salmon dial, like the Kermit, offers a splash of exciting color to brighten even the dreariest of days!

And the "titanium laser" dial is like a chameleon with excellent light play. You can get lost rolling your list and changing the colors of your dial all day long-certainly a fantastic conversation piece. Finally, don't forget the skeleton dial; what better way to show off the incredible horological prowess of Oris than to wear a piece that bares all: the Calibre 115 in all of its mechanical glory.

Oris Pro Pilot X Watch Materials

Just a few years ago, crafting a watch from titanium was an expensive endeavor. But now, with modern manufacturing techniques, titanium is becoming more accessible to the masses. It is lighter, more durable, has better thermal properties, and just looks absolutely fantastic! Oris' entire Pro Pilot X line of watches is constructed from titanium. This included the cases and the sculpted titanium bracelet. The watch crystals are, of course, made from sapphire glass.

Oris Pro Pilot X Watch Complications

The Oris Pro Pilot X watches come with a date window at 6 o'clock for the Green, Salmon, Blue, and Gray dial options. The "Laser" dial does not come with a date complication. The Skeleton version with the Calibre 115 offers a 10-day power reserve indicator on the dial, but it does not have a date complication.

Oris Pro Pilot X Sizes

The Oris Pro Pilot X comes in two case sizes: 39mm and 44mm. The 39mm is the standard size for this model, and it offers svelte dimensions with only 12mm of thickness. If you want to opt for the larger 44mm version, the only option available is the skeleton dial.
