Longines Spirit Chronograph (L3.820.4.93.0) Watch Review
Longines is not new to the watchmaking industry. The company has a deep history of excellence and accurate timekeeping. This is probably why it has been the choice timepiece for many pioneers in the field of air and sea transportation. The famous winged hourglass brand has graced the wrist of many pilots, sailors, and air force officers, who relied on the watch to help them navigate within the best possible timing.
Earlier this year, Longines announced the reintroduction of its Spirit Chronograph watch collections, which they discontinued about a decade ago. Among this collection is the new Spirit Chronograph watch with the serial number L3.820.4.93.0. This new timepiece comes with a vintage styling while still giving you the contemporary feel of a classy timekeeping device.
With the Spirit Chronograph L3.820.4.93.0, Longines achieves a stylish design, which, when combined with the aviation-inspired accurate and reliable timing system, produces a master watch that should be in the collection of every stylish man and watch enthusiast.
EXTERIOR
The spirit Chronograph L3.820.4.93.0 comes with an exterior that will stand the test of time. The watch's case is stainless steel and 42.00mm in diameter. Although this differs from the previous Spirit Collection size, this case is more handsome and unique. The case comes with a screw-in crown to help enhance its water-resistant design. The choice of material for the case ensures that the watch lasts long, and it is durable enough to reduce wear and tear over an extended period of use.
The back casing is screwed down to enhance water resistance, and on it is etched the winged hourglass logo of Longines and features of the watch. The protective glass covering the dial of the Spirit Chronograph (L3.820.4.93.6) is fabricated from scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. It is coated with several chemicals on both sides of the glass to reduce light reflection.
Attached to a lug of the L3.820.4.93.0 case are leather bands made from calfskin. The strap comes with a pin buckle to help fasten it comfortably on wrists of almost any size. The lug width of this watch is 22 mm.
SYSTEM
The new Longines Spirit Chronograph L3.820.4.93.0 has an automatic movement system. This system runs on the Longines L688.4 caliber, and it has a diameter of 30.00mm and 27 jewels. This movement system runs at 28,800 vph and also has a silicon-based spring. The movement comes with a power reserve of 64 hours.
This system allows for the chronograph function, and it is important to mention that the chronometer of this watch is certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). Some other benefits of this movement system are its high accuracy (-4/+6 seconds a day), and it is also self-winding.
DISPLAY
The Longines Spirit Chronograph L3.820.4.93.0 has a display that matches the beauty of its exterior design. Housed under the highly treated sapphire crystal is a sunray blue dial.
On the dial sits applied Arabic numerals as hour markers and other markers for minutes and seconds. The silver sandblasted hour and minute hands both have Swiss Super-LumiNova that illuminate them in the dark.
Aside from the Longines logo and the iconic five-star associated with the Swiss watchmaker brand, a date window is between the four and five-hour marker. There is a central 60 seconds counter at the nine o’clock mark, a thirty minutes counter at the three o’clock mark, and a twelve-hour maker at the six o’clock mark.
FUNCTIONS
Longines Spirit Chronograph (L3.820.4.93.0) checks the mark of design, accuracy, and stylishness. It then begs the question if the watch comes with functions worth the price tag attached to it. Yes, it does.
The Chronograph function of the L3.820.4.93.0 is perhaps its most significant attribute. With the click of a button, you have access to the 60-second stopwatch, a 30-minute counter, and a 12-hour counter should a need arise for it.
Another function of the L3.820.4.93.0 is its water resistance capacity. Rated at 10 atm, this watch stays water-resistant up to 100 meters. This prevents any damage to the watch even if it is exposed to water splash.
You shouldn't immerse your watch in water unless it is certified for diving, and you shouldn't expose your watch to liquid chemicals. They may corrode the stainless steel, causing damage to the watch.
