Longines Skin Diver Review
Compared to all the other Swatch Group brands, the Longines is the only one that nails their vintage re-editions most of the time. For a long, the Longines Heritage models have been the favorites for watch collectors and divers as soon as they hit the stores. The Longines Skin Diver watch is no different.
Incorporated with some of the past models, the Skin Diver displays a historic recreation revived from the archives of the first Longines diver watch. In addition, the Skin Diver is blended with modern features that will further raise your excitement as a watch collector or a scuba diver. Its features are a reason why it is one of the best Swatch Group brands. Let’s dive further into the Longines Skin Diver watch features.
What’s Unique
The Longines Skin Diver version, unlike the previous models, does not have the date window.
Key Features
The Longines Skin Diver watch comes in a round, 42 mm stainless steel case with a black dial and sapphire crystal. It has a black rubber bracelet strap with a pin buckle. The measurement lug-to-lug is 52 mm, making it one of the biggest luxury watches you can find.
The Case
The round case made of stainless steel has a 42 mm width with a screw-down case back for water resistance properties. This timepiece has glass made of sapphire, which means it is resistant to scratches. It also has an anti-reflective coating on both sides for clear reading of the watch without too many reflections.
The case features a screw-in crown on the right, which is also made of stainless steel. Another notable feature included in the case is the unidirectional rotating bezel.
The Crown
Made with stainless steel, the Longines Skin Diver watch has a crown that can be positioned in three different settings for different functions.
Position 1: The initial (first position) keeps the crown in its original position while the watch is being worn. This position ensures a watertight seal with the case for water resistance up to 300 meters.
Position 2: The second position involves pulling out the crown one notch. This position allows you to adjust the date by turning it backward. The Longines brand advises that you avoid making any quick date adjustments between 8:00 pm and 3:00 am as doing so may damage the mechanism. Only adjust if it is necessary.
Position 3: The third position is by pulling the crown twice from its initial position. This position stops the watch and lets you adjust the time. To adjust the time, turn the crown backward or forwards. Push it back to its initial position to make it work again.
Winding the watch
To wind the watch, turn the crown forwards while in its initial position up to a minimum of twenty times to get the watch working.
The Bezel
The Longines Skin Diver watch has a black bezel made of PVD-coated steel that nicely clicks with a small shake. It is very thin with a low profile, featuring deep crenelations along its edge. The crenelations make it easy to turn with minimum effort. It rotates in a unidirectional movement with 120 clicks.
The Dial
The overall design of the dial looks almost the same as the first Longines Diver watch. The huge dial is black with polished silver hands. The hour markers are painted Arabic numerals and indexes. The numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock are so identical to the old version, even in their positioning.
The Bracelet
The bracelet is a black rubber strap with a pin buckle that will make it perfectly fit your wrist. It wears and looks nice, with perfect proportions making the watch not feel heavy on the wrist. You can also have it on a steel Milanese bracelet if you prefer.
The Case Back
Made with stainless steel, the case back has an embossed image of a diver holding a spear with the words “Longines Skin Diver Watch.” It is a screw-down case back with additional information such as the reference number.
The Caliber
There is the Longines L888.2 caliber under the case back, a self-winding movement, and a 64-hour power reserve. This is the same movement in the Longines Legend Diver and the Longines Military.
