DESIGN INSPIRATION
In 2017, Jacob & Co. created a new ladies' collection that looked like no other. Round, without lugs, with a strap directly attached to the case, Brilliant was designed to be versatile, precious and to embrace the entire range of gems Jacob & Co. loves. Brilliant Flying Tourbillon is the most lavish expression of its high jewelry spirit, combined with high watchmaking expertise.
Brilliant Flying Tourbillon is entirely covered in gems, from dial to case. Jacob & Co. exclusively selected the baguette cut. To recreate the smoothest surface, Jacob & Co. only works with the invisible setting technique. No prongs, no metal appears that would break the continuous array of gems. White diamonds. Emeralds. Rubies. Blue, yellow, pink or orange sapphires. Tsavorites. A rainbow color arrangement. Brilliant Flying Tourbillon is Jacob & Co.'s ultimate expression of femininity.
THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
Brilliant Flying Tourbillon is a work of both high jewelry and high watchmaking. It requires a movement that's as exclusive as its appearance. Caliber JCBM01 has been developed to give Brilliant Flying Tourbillon this dual nature. It's regulated by a one-minute flying tourbillon, visible through an opening on the dial. On its other side, visible through the caseback, the entire movement is pavé-set with diamonds.
The rounded case of Brilliant Flying Tourbillon is a three-dimensional creation. Shaped like a pebble, it possesses a great ergonomy and offers the best canvas for the kind of creativity Jacob & Co. is famous for. The rounded edges of the case provide Brilliant with its namesake property : brilliance. When its metal stands alone, thorough polishing gives it light and life. When our gem-setters get a hold of it, it becomes a large field of expression of their expertise.
Achieving such an impeccable result requires an extensive development process. It starts at the selection of gems, goes on with their cutting, and ends in the setting itself. At each one of those steps, Jacob & Co.'s expertise is mobilized at its finest. For Jacob & Co., work is at its best when the work doesn't show.
THE COMPLICATIONS & FEATURES
Caliber JCBM01 is a hand-wound, hour and minute movement with a flying tourbillon. When flipped, Brilliant Flying Tourbillon reveals another high jewelry side, as the movement is pavé-set with 338 white, brilliant-cut diamonds.
THE FLYING TOURBILLON
Gravity naturally has a negative impact on a movement's accuracy. By putting its escapement into a constant spin, the tourbillon counteracts this natural defect. In the process, it becomes a rotating, fascinating and prestigious creation, a manifestation of expertise and craft, designed for chronometry. As the tourbillon carriage in caliber JCBM01 is held only by its base, it has no upper bridge, making it a flying tourbillon.
THE DIAMOND-SET MOVEMENT
Setting the bridges of a movement with gems is a highly delicate task. The setting process applies force on the movement pieces, which can lead to bending them. Yet they need to stay as perfectly shaped as they would be without diamonds. This operation requires the kind of expertise and skill Jacob & Co. has been accumulating for years.
THE LIFESTYLE
Brilliant Flying Tourbillon instantly achieves elegance, refinement and ultimate luxury. It can either be worn as an everyday-wear timepiece or an evening wear one. It matches a pair of cashmere sweatpants, a pantsuit or a dramatic evening gown with equal grace. Brilliance is at ease with every moment of life, and so is Brilliant Flying Tourbillon.
