Grand Seiko STGK009 Watch Review
Grand Seiko’s newest collection for women is called Elegance. If there is any watchmaker that knows how to truly encapsulate luxury in a watch, it is Grand Seiko, and this five-watch collection lives up to this reputation.
The Grand Seiko STGK009 is part of this new collection. Through exceptional performance and the aesthetic qualities of its design, this watch is essentially flawless.
The Case Design
In this five watch collection, three watches are made of 18k white gold while the rest are made of stainless steel. The Grand Seiko STGK009 is one of the stainless steel models. With a diameter of 27.88mm and a thickness of 11.2mm, this timepiece is sleek and refined. The watch has been zaratsu polished, which is a trademark polishing technique that provides the watch with a smooth texture.
Grand Seiko does not forget functionality with this watch, as it is designed with a three-fold clasp and a push-button release, making it extremely easy to take on and off. The dial of the watch is protected with a dual-curved sapphire crystal. In the watchmaking industry, sapphire is the best crystal a watchmaker can use to protect the dial. Due to its scratch-resistant properties and sturdiness, under a sapphire crystal the dial of a watch is always safe. In addition to the crystal itself, Grand Seiko has also added an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface to protect the aesthetic qualities of the watch from bright lights.
The Interior
The Grand Seiko STGK009 is designed with a beautiful mother of pearl dial. To further enhance the timepiece’s elegance, Grand Seiko has designed it with diamond-cut hour markers. Like the other stainless steel model in this collection, the Grand Seiko STGK009 is designed with 35 jewels to make it sparkle with splendor. With a perfectly placed Grand Seiko logo and date window, the dial of this watch is a work of art.
The Inner Workings
In 2018, Grand Seiko introduced the caliber 9S25 movement system at Baselworld. Today, Grand Seiko has upgraded that automatic movement system to the new caliber 9S27 movement system. This automated movement system is built to offer a manual winding capacity as well, increasing its versatility. Each of these unique movement systems is built, assembled, and adjusted by hand at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in northern Japan.
The caliber 9S27 movement system is equipped with a balance spring, pallet fork, and escapement wheel made with the latest SPRON 610 alloy using MEMS engineering. This alloy offers one of the highest impact resistances of any material used in watches, adding to the sturdiness of this watch. The combination of this alloy and MEMS engineering is the reason behind the excellent performance of the Grand Seiko STGK009. With a 50-hour power reserve and an accuracy of +8 to -3 seconds, the Grand Seiko STGK009 offers fantastic performance delivered by an eight beat movement system. While this watch is all about luxury, it also offers 10 bar water resistance to make it both durable and multi-purpose.
