Recalling the clear blue sky as seen from the top of Mt. Iwate
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Caliber 9S, Grand Seiko has created a new GMT in the Elegance Collection that takes inspiration from the skies over Iwate.
The dial’s beautiful blue color and sunray pattern are inspired by the clear blue sky over Mt. Iwate, the peak visible from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. Like all Grand Seiko GMT watches, it features an independently adjustable local hour hand that enables easy adjustments of the time as one travels. The thermally blued GMT hand, meanwhile, can be set to a time zone of one’s choice. Its corresponding 24-hour scale is printed in blue on the sunray dial.
The watch is powered by the 9S66 movement, which has a power reserve of three days and is accurate to +5 to -3 seconds per day. The movement’s special titanium rotor, which is visible through the exhibition case back, has been turned Grand Seiko Blue through an anodic oxidation treatment.
