Inspired by a sea of clouds at daybreak
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Caliber 9S, Grand Seiko has created a new GMT in the Sport Collection that takes inspiration from the skies over Iwate.
The dial illustrates a rare daybreak scene, when humid air forms dense clouds that overlar and appear to be a sea of clouds. The blue color is inspired by the color of the sky over Mt. Iwate, the peak visible from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where Grand Seiko mechanical watches are assembled by hand.
The stainless steel GMT features a blue and white bezel with a sapphire crystal insert, elevating the design and enabling the time to be read in three time zones simultaneously.
A Hi-Beat mechanical GMT movement powers this watch. The Caliber 9S86 provides an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day with excellent stability and shock resistance thanks to its 10-beat-per-second rate. The movement’s rotor, which has been turned blue through an anodic oxidation process, is visible through an exhibition case back for the first time in a Grand Seiko mechanical watch with a water resistance of 20 bar.
