The Grand Seiko 95 mechanical Hi-beat watch with reference SBGJ203 is one of the masterpieces in the heritage collection. It is the first high-frequency GMT watch by the Japanese watchmaker, and it is the first of their watches to receive the 9586-movement system. The beautiful timepiece is one that is suitable for all kinds of occasions due to its exquisite design. Watch lovers who are familiar with the Seiko brand know the level of quality that is synonymous with the brand, and this is another plus when it comes to the grand SBGJ203. It will take you seeing one of the Grand Seiko SBGJ203 in person to appreciate this delightful timepiece, but if you are yet to own or see one, then you are missing out on a timepiece that is a combination of class, design, and quality.
Exterior
The case material used in making the Grand Seiko SBGJ203 is stainless steel with a matt and shiny polished finish. The crystal covering the dial is made from dual-curved sapphire which is coated internally with anti-reflective coating to protect it. The Grand Seiko SBGJ203 has a 40mm angular case with a thickness of 14mm. Its stainless-steel, the silver bracelet has a three-fold clasp that has a push button that is designed to open it easily making it quite easy to put on or off.
Movement
The Grand Seiko SBGJ203 has an automatic movement system with manual winding capacity. It has an approximate 55 hours power reserve, and an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds a day when static, and +8 to -1 seconds per day when in normal use. This movement system is viewable through a transparent opening on the screw-down back of the watch.
Functions
The Grand Seiko SBGJ203 has a water resistance capacity value of 10 bar – this means that it should be used in water deeper than 100 meters. The watch is also equipped with magnetic resistant capacity, so you have no fear of wearing it near a magnet. The stainless-steel watch weighs about 159 g which is a reasonable weight for a watch of its caliber.
Display
The Grand Seiko SBGJ203’s display is one of the most attractive things about this watch. Its black dial – with a Mount Iwate patterned design, has white indicators to represent the hour count, but there are no Arabic numerals on the dial. A rectangular date window sits at the 3:00 position with white-colored numerals to indicate the date. Three silver hands representing the hour, minute and seconds sit on the black dial, and another extra red hour hand is attached to help the carrier check the time of another time zone of his preset choice. The advantage of this extra hand is simply to eradicate the need for unnecessary calculation if the bearer of the watch travels. He or she can set one of the hands to their local time, and the other to the time zone of the country they are traveling to. A fairly big ‘GS’ is written on the dial alongside the watch’s name, and a smaller version is inscribed on the watch’s crown. The number of jewels on the Grand Seiko SBGJ203 is numbered at 32, and the watch also sports a nicely designed 24 hours bezel.
