Grand Seiko SBGH213 Watch Review
Grand Seiko is renowned for its bracelet watches, but its strap models are just as classy and functional. The Grand Seiko SBGH213 is a boutique-only model that was introduced in 2017 as an upgrade to the SBGH013.
Outer Appearance
The exterior of the Grand Seiko SBGH213 dial is made with smooth stainless steel, which gives it an eye-catching pop of shine. The smoothness of the steel is contrasted with a robust brown alligator leather strap. This exotic leather strap complements the minimalist design of this timepiece. The Grand Seiko SBGH213 is 39.5mm in diameter and 13.1mm in length. It is made with sapphire crystal, know for its durability, scratch resistance, and sturdiness. In addition to being durable, this sapphire crystal is also coated with an anti-reflective material which maintains the watch’s aesthetic even in bright light.
The Timepiece
The glossy ivory color of the Grand Seiko SBGH213 dial pairs perfectly with the brown alligator leather strap. The contrast of dark and light makes the watch stand out. In addition to the smooth, glossy dial, the Dauphine hands and Arabic numeral indexes give the watch an artistic touch. Apart from the beautiful color scheme, this dial is also very functional. The date window is placed perfectly and is the right size. It might seem simple to do this, but date window placement is one of the trickiest things to do in watchmaking. In addition, a small Grand Seiko logo at the top-center of the dial pairs exceptionally well with the minimalist design of the watch.
The Unseen
For most technology-based products, what you can’t see is perhaps the most important. It is the same for watches, as the inner workings of the watch determine its functional value. This high-beat timepiece has a self-winding calibre 9S85 movement system, which is one of the best introduced by Grand Seiko. To make the movement system even more excellent, the calibre 9S85 is made of Grand Seiko's proprietary alloy, "SPRON530." Additionally, the balance spring of this watch is made with "SPRON610," an anti-magnetic alloy with extremely high shock resistance which was recently developed by Grand Seiko. Apart from the anti-magnetic qualities of this watch, it is also equipped with a new escape wheel and a pallet manufactured by Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS). All of these new additions allow this timepiece to function at 36000 beats per hour with a precision of 3 to +5 seconds per day. While this level of accuracy is a standard for all Grand Seiko watches, it is the highest published standard in the watch industry. A watch's high-beat characteristics would be meaningless without a solid power reserve, and the Grand Seiko SBGH213 is designed with a 55-hour power reserve.
