The History of the Grand Seiko SBGH201
It's been more than a half-century since the first release of a Grand Seiko. And the stories have been the same, "the pursuit of an everlasting watch". Grand Seiko 44GS came in time to seal the ideal design for how a Grand Seiko should look in style.
By the 2000s, Grand Seiko had set standards beyond what was possible in the mechanical watch industry with a high level of precision in their watch movement. They have challenged the release of their quartz watches, showed their abilities to manufacture watch parts in-house, and have created the first-ever hybrid watch with their Spring Drive.
The fold of the 50th year saw the evolution of Grand Seiko hi-beats. With ten beats per second accuracy, this technology was way faster than the everyday mechanical watch. With an improved hi-beat 9S85 caliber, the SBGH201 came to life. It is a replica of the 61GS of 1968 - the first automatic 10-beat watch. Grand Seiko SBGH201 was another stride by the Grand Seiko to stay "King of watches".
What is special about the Grand Seiko SBGH201?
If you are familiar with the Grand Seiko you would agree everything about each of their watches is simply a class of its own. Renowned for their Zaratsu polished stainless-steel case and the classic bracelets, the SBGH201 is no exception to the Grand Seiko style. It has varied, well-etched hands with the second hand coming pretty blue contrasting against a strong, well detailed white dial.
To garner its higher precision, improvements were made on the mainspring, the hairspring, and escapement of the then 9S65 caliber. This model is not just an incarnation, it is one of the most accurate timepieces in the market today. It has a precision of +5 to -3 seconds per day (when static) or +8 to -1 seconds per day (normal usage accuracy).
As proof of its efficiency, this model, like every other Seiko, comes with an English and Japanese test certificate. To help you understand your watch better, it also comes with a movement handbook written and illustrated in both English and Japanese languages.
