Grand Seiko SBGV205 Quartz Review
The Grand Seiko SBGV205 is part of the limited-edition watches added to the heritage collection in 2014 by the Japanese watch giant. Like most of the watches in the heritage collection, the Grand Seiko SBGV205 is one watch that is perfect for almost all occasions. It is characterized by the unique craftsmanship, attention to detail, micro artistic treatment and technical excellence that is synonymous with all the watches in the heritage collection. It is unique, and one of the most sort after collectible watches because of its rarity.
Grand Seiko SBGV205: Exterior
Like most of the watches in the heritage collection, the Grand Seiko SBGV205 has a case that is made from stainless steel. The Zaratsu brush polishing method is used to give it a clean finish that makes it shine. The case diameter is 46.2 × 40.0 mm, and it has a thickness of 10.4mm. The case back of the SBGV205 carries the popular lion emblem of the company. To the casing is attached stainless steel, a silver-colored bracelet which has a three-piece folding steel clasp with push-button for easy opening and closing. The watch weighs about 137.0g, and its glass covering is made from dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on its inner surface.
Grand Seiko SBGV205: Movement
The Grand Seiko SBGV205 is enabled with the quartz movement, 9F82 caliber system. The 9F82 caliber movement system is designed with a slightly bigger movement mechanism to fit into the increased size of its case. The 9F82 caliber movement system is one of the most advanced quartz movement system ever designed, and it is accurate to the tune of ±10 seconds a year which is very impressive. A thermal compensation regulator is fitted in this system to help keep its accuracy irrespective of temperature change.
Grand Seiko SBGV205: Functions
Although the heritage collection watches are known for their beautiful designs, the Grand Seiko SBGV205 has much more than just designs to its belt. Among its top-notch functionality includes Its water resistance capacity which is rated 10 bars. What this means in layman terms is that this watch is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters. This eradicates the fear of wearing your watch during winter or in the rain, and also enables you to wear your watch while doing chores that brings you close to water (corrosive liquids should not be poured on watches, and your watch should not be allowed to be in contact with liquid for too long.)
Another feature of the Grand Seiko SBGV205 is that it is equipped with a magnetic resistance of 4800 A/s rating. The implication of this is that there is minimal or no deviations at all in the accuracy of the watch when worn close to a magnetic field.
Grand Seiko SBGV205: Display
Grand Seiko is known for their attention to details when it comes to the display of their watches, and the Grand Seiko SBGV205 is not an exception. It’s champagne-colored, the mirror-finished dial does not have Arabic numerals, but has twelve, highly polished, three-dimensional silver hour index marker. Two highly polished, silver-toned hour and minutes hands sits on the dial alongside one blue second hand that contrast against the champagne-colored dial for easy visibility and radiance. A date display window is located at the 3:00 mark of the dial, while the famous GS signature of Grand Seiko sits at the 12:00 mark.
