Theologist. Physicist. Inventor. Entrepreneur. Sorcerer? In the Age of Enlightenment, Pierre Jaquet Droz had a reputation for being all of these things. Jaquet Droz was truly a man ahead of his time. His creations were as amazing and important as his contemporary Franklin’s invention of the lightning conductor in 1752. So advanced were his inventions that he was shunned by people in his village and even stood accused of sorcery by the Inquisition. Eventually embraced by not only his village, but the royal courts of Europe, his lasting contributions to the art and the science of watchmaking and mechanical engineering are legendary.
Every timepiece produced by the Montres Jaquet Droz manufacturing workshops bears its individual number, engraved on the case-back. It provides a permanent record of the fate of each watch and contributes to writing the distinguished history of the brand.
